The NSW Department of Health has advised that applications for
2002 Rural and Remote Undergraduate Nursing Scholarships have opened.
This news is appropriate especially following the recent industrial
action that highlighted the need for, and shortages of nurses in our
hospitals. The scholarships are offers of up to $4,000 to first year
undergraduate nursing students with a rural background, who meet
certain eligibility criteria. Guidelines/application forms are
available from my office or from www.health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/scholar.htm.
Roll Over Protection Structure Rebate
As part of a rural safety campaign for regional NSW, the State
Government is providing a $200 rebate to assist owners of tractors
used on farms who fit a Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) during
the campaign. An application form needs to be completed with
additional information. This Scheme will conclude on 31 December
2001 and I encourage all farmers to consider and participate in this
Search for Top Regional Inventor in NSW
Country inventors are being encouraged to enter into the inaugural
NSW Rural Inventor's Award. The NSW Innovation Council is contributing
a case prize of $5,000 for the best regional innovation or invention
for 2001. This years competition is a pilot program for a possible
