Bali condolences

The Kyogle News October 02

Bali condolences

Along with my colleagues and Federal counterparts, on behalf of the electorate I conveyed our heartfelt sympathy to the relatives and friends of the Australians who died or were injured in Bali on 12 October 2002, in Parliament. Sadly terrorism has now come to our region. The bombing and the callous and murderous manner in which it was performed will change forever the way we live in Australia and go about our daily lives. Everyone has been profoundly moved by the grief and quite dignity of those who lost friends and family in this cruel and terrible attack.

Rural Fire Brigade volunteers

Sadly the ensuing summer is going to be a long drawn out season for our local Rural Fire Service and its volunteers. Many have already been busy fighting fires in our region. The recent bad conditions, drought and lack of rain means the early onset of bushfire season is on us already. On behalf of the electorate, I convey our appreciation and thanks to all volunteers for their invaluable service to the community and those in need.

As 2002 draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a safe happy and holy Christmas. I trust that 2003 will bring happiness and good health.
