Christmas Message 2003

Christmas always seems to stir so many memories. the kind that stay tucked away the rest of the year. That's why so many warm and lovely feelings always return to us at this special time of the year.

Volunteers make the special communities in which we live and interact in. Acknowledgement of their invaluable contribution is paramount; thank you to each and everyone one for your individual gift of time and effort. Celebrating this occasion is made a little easer with the kind generosity of local charities and volunteers. Simply I say thank you on behalf of the electorate of Lismore. To our volunteers who are on standby during the festive season; emergency services personnel and fire fighters, may you have the opportunity this year to enjoy the company of family and friends and be kept safe if duty calls.

A number of local events this year have highlighted the importance and value of our region, such as Beef Week, Primex, Lismore Herb Festival, Masters Games, Kyogle Fairymount Festival, local Shows, Riverbank redevelopment and Community Technology Centre openings in rural communities.

Our region continues to progress in its value and quality of local agriculture products being used in national business activities, our significance as a link to the capital cities is being acknowledged in the successful reestablishment of Regional Express and now the new Redpath Brisbane flight services. The local economy is prospering and our industries reap the benefits of hard work and negotiations with neighbouring states and markets.

My wish is that this festive time brings happiness and joy to everyone; I trust your families, friends and loved ones are kept safe and please remember to drive and celebrate safely during the Christmas and New Year season.

May you all have a Happy and Holy Christmas
and I trust that 2004 brings Peace, Health and Happiness.

From Thomas George
