Palliative Care Week

Last week I took the opportunity to visit the Palliative Care Unit at St Vincent's Hospital, as part of National Palliative Care Week, to thank them on behalf of the Lismore Electorate for the tremendous work and support the team provides to the patients and their families & friends during what is a difficult time.

Shadow Minister for Transport Visits

Deputy Opposition Leader, Mr Barry O'Farrell visited the Lismore Electorate last Thursday to speak with Trains on our Tracks representatives, he attended a gathering of local bus operators and inspected Lismore's bus interchange.

NSW Regional Achievement and Community Awards

Nominations are open again for the 2006 NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards. Individuals, businesses, communities or organisations who have made a difference to regional and rural NSW & ACT in one of the following categories are being encouraged to apply.

Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters Inquiry

The Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters is currently seeking submissions for its Inquiry into Voter Enrolment. The terms of reference are - The current level of voter enrolment in New South Wales, particularly among young people and any other groups with special needs in relation to voter enrolment;
The impact on voter enrolment of Commonwealth reforms to introduce new identification requirements for people seeking to enrol to vote or to change their enrolment details; and
Any additional strategies to maintain or improve the level of voter enrolment and to ensure that the roll remains up to date, with particular regard to the needs of particular groups (such as young people) and other demographic changes (such as the ageing population).

Closing date is 7 July and can be sent to the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, Parliament House, Macquarie Street, Sydney 2000.
