NATURAL DISASTER FUNDING FOR LISMORE CITY COUNCIL

20 September 1999

Urgently needed Natural Disaster funding for Lismore City Council was welcomed today, by Mr Thomas George, Member for Lismore.

NSW Treasurer, The Hon Michael Egan advised Mr George of the $92,000 allocation following requests from Lismore City Council.

"A number of Councils in the Lismore electorate have sought my assistance in requesting the declaration of a Natural Disaster following the prolonged wet period suffered from late January through April 1999" Mr George said.

"Councils are claiming for extensive damage to the state, regional and local road network which have deteriorated substantially during the sustained wet period."

In welcoming the allocation, Mr George stated that he is still lobbying for additional funding to other local Councils in his electorate.

"I am pleased that the State Government has finally recognised this Natural Disaster enabling Lismore City Council to assess and schedule essential road works for urgent priority" Mr George concluded.
