THOMAS GEORGE WELCOMES PEDESTRIAN UNDERPASS/INTERCHANGE

13 April 2000

National Party Member for Lismore Thomas George today welcomed the opening of the Bangalow Road/Dawson Street pedestrian underpass linking Trinity College and St Carthage's Primary School.

Mr George said the underpass and new bus interchange in Hindmarsh and Leycester Streets were developments that significantly contributed to the safety of students.

"With hundreds of students a day expected to use the underpass this removes the danger they faced while trying to cross Dawson Street," Mr George said.

Mr George congratulated former National Party Member Bill Rixon for the tireless work he had put into lobbying for the underpass and interchange.

"I would also like to congratulate Lismore City Council for the tremendous amount of work it has put into bringing these projects to fruition," Mr George said.

Mr George said after continuing Mr Rixon's lobbying for funding of the projects it was extremely satisfying to see both initiatives up and running.

Mr George said he was disappointed he was unable to attend the official opening on Friday because Parliament was sitting.
