STATE GOVERNMENT FUNDS FOR KADINA STREET OVERPASS

Tuesday 5 December 2000

The State Government will provide $200,000 towards the installation of a pedestrian bridge over the Bruxner Highway near Kadina Street, the Member for Lismore, Thomas George, announced today.

"This significant safety improvement will be welcomed by parents, teachers, and the wider community," Mr George said.

"As well as funding to construct the new bridge, the RTA has now offered to supply a bridge deck unit from a dismantled pedestrian overbridge. Lismore City Council has incorporated the unit into a very practical and attractive design for the Kadina Street site.

"Re-using the deck unit has resulted in savings to the community by reducing the cost of the new bridge.

"As a result the overpass will now be constructed sooner by Lismore City Council with funding support from the State Government.

"The new overpass will provide students with a safer passage removed from main road traffic. Currently students have to cross the busy Bruxner Highway to make their way to and from school.

"The new overpass will provide, parents, teachers and motorists with a safer environment when driving past the school.

"I am very pleased this important project will be commenced shortly once the deck unit is delivered by the RTA to the Council Depot for refurbishment," Mr George concluded.
