2001/02 State Budget

24 May 2001

National Party Member for Lismore Thomas George, today said he would be closely scrutinising this year's State Budget, which is due to be handed down on Tuesday 29 May.

"During the past couple of weeks I have been collating information concerning projects in the Electorate that should require additional or new funding," Mr George said.

Mr George will be particularly looking for the Carr Government's support for the following -

increased budget for Police to provide more officers for the Richmond Area Command;

additional road funding;

continuing assistance for Kyogle and Nimbin MPS;

additional funding for schools to assist with major works;

new SES computer systems;

funding for a half-way house to assist with drug & alcohol rehabilitation to support the Riverlands Unit;

increase in funding for mental and dental health;

financial assistance for country halls and showgrounds "I call on the Carr Government to provide assistance to these projects. The State Government should also follow the lead of the Commonwealth and at least match the funding already allocated to dairy farmers and the regional "Roads to Recovery" program," Mr George concluded.
