Pre Budget

4 June 2002

National Party Member for Lismore Thomas George, said he would be closely scrutinising this year's State Budget, which was handed down today.

"I believe this Budget is an opportunity to highlight the projects in the Electorate that require additional or new funding. I have been collating information on these items and have worked closely with community groups in listening to their needs and concerns," Mr George said.

Mr George will be looking for the Carr Government's support for the following -
increased budget for Police to provide more officers for the Richmond Area Command;
a new police station for Lismore and renovations to the Casino police station;
additional road funding; projects such as the Legume to Woodenbong Road, Summerland Way, Bruxner Highway, Old Bonalbo bridge and school community safety projects such as bus turnarounds;
a committed and determined allocation to enable the finalisation of Kyogle and Nimbin MPS;
increased and additional funding for schools to assist with identified major works;
increase in funding for mental and dental health;
financial assistance for country halls and showgrounds;
recognition of much needed funding increases for preschools;
funding of Sewerage schemes for Federal & Clunes, and Water/Sewerage schemes for Urbenville and Woodenbong "With the 2003 March State election looming, I challenge the Carr Government to use this opportunity to acknowledge the importance of regional seats and provide necessary funding to projects that have long been neglected during the term of Labor rule," Mr George concluded
