FUNDS FOR LISMORE ROADS STUDY

27 June 2002

Thomas George, National Party Member for Lismore was pleased with the announcement of a State Government funded study into Lismore's arterial road network.

It was confirmed today that the State Government would give Lismore City Council $25,000 towards the study.

"This allocation is as a result of Mayor Bob Gates and the former General Manager, Mr Ken Gainger meeting with Minister for Roads, The Hon Carl Scully, when State Cabinet visited Evans Head for its regional meeting on 20 April 2002," stated Thomas George.

"They put the case for equal funding from the State Government to match Council's contribution of $25,000 to fund a study into how the arterial road network through and around Lismore can be improved.

"Council would like to find an alternative route from the Bruxner Highway to Bangalow Road which takes heavy traffic out of the center of town," concluded Thomas George.
