Shooting Funding

26 August 2002

National Party Member for Lismore, Thomas George, has encouraged the many shooting clubs throughout the electorate to apply for funds under the $750,000 Shooting Facility Development Program.

"The grants scheme provides assistance to NSW shooting clubs to develop better and safer facilities for their sport," Mr George said.

"New South Wales has produced some outstanding champion sporting shooters, many of whom originally came from rural clubs.

"It is important that local clubs have the opportunity to maintain and improve their facilities," Mr George said.

Projects funded under the Shooting Facility Development Program include:

installation of targets
providing access for people with disabilities
upgrading fences, and
providing covers for shooting bays to ensure their use in all types of weather.

Application forms are available from any office of the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation or on the Department's website at www.dsr.nsw.gov.au

Closing date for applications is 25 September, 2002.

"The main beneficiaries of the program would be rural shooting clubs and responsible shooters right across rural and regional NSW deserved to get their fair share," concluded Mr George.
