National Party Member for Lismore, Mr Thomas George paid tribute to his predecessor and former Member, Mr Bill Rixon who passed away yesterday. I am very saddened to hear of Bill's passing and wish to recognise the loss to the area, particularly his home town of Kyogle.

Bill was a humble rural man who became a Member of Parliament, following his involvement in local government with Kyogle Shire Council.

Bill's contribution and dedication to the Electorate of Lismore during his 11 years as the State representative was invaluable. The respect of Bill has always been evident by his rapport with many local organisations, businesses and residents, who have benefited immensely from his representation.

Upon his retirement, numerous calls and best wishes received by my office were a tribute to the respect and honour felt by the community for Bill, which were also testimony to his commitment to the area.

I also pay tribute to Merrilyn who was a devoted and supportive wife during Bill's political career and their life together. I recognise that his achievements would not have been possible without this love and encouragement from Merrilyn and his family.

My thoughts and condolences are with them and I trust that God will bless Merrilyn and the family at this difficult time.
