$129,919 IN GRANTS FOR LISMORE ELECTORATE ENVIRONMENT

The Nats Member for Lismore, Thomas George today announced $129,919 in local grants from the NSW Government's Environmental Trust.

Thomas George said the local grants were part of a statewide $5.4 million package that would help improve the NSW environment.

"These grants will be used to protect and restore degraded environments, prevent environmental damage and educate the local residents of the Lismore electorate", said Mr George.

Successful applicants were - $44,899 Boolangle Local Aboriginal Land Council
$10,300 Gugin Guddaba Local Aboriginal Land Council
$5,000 Blackhorse Creek Rainforest Restoration Group
$69,720 Lismore City Council

"The Environmental Trust funded five grant programs areas this year covering: Restoration and Rehabilitation
Environmental Education
Environmental Research
Protecting our Places - for Aboriginal communities
Eco Schools - for environmental management projects in NSW schools

"In total 162 grants have been awarded by the Trust, helping communities find local solutions to local environmental issues.

"This is a great success story for the NSW environment," said Mr George.
