Families in the Lismore electorate are the big winners this week with an announcement that on-going funding has been approved for the `Communities 4 Kids' project, National Party Member for Lismore Thomas George said today.

The project, which has been allocated $220,918, will be located at Goonellabah Primary School and managed by YWCA Youth Services Lismore.

"The funding of this project is great news for the families of Lismore as `Communities 4 Kids' aims to give children the best start in life through strengthening the connection between families and the community," Mr George said.

"Services like these are vital to rural and regional areas, when distance and isolation sometimes threaten the bonds of community. The kids of this area are our future and we need to do all that we can to look out for them."

"The Communities 4 Kids project will focus on strengthening links between families and services in the local area which can assist them in caring for their children."

Goonellabah's `Communities 4 Kids' project will deal in prevention and early intervention schemes that provide children and families with support early in life in order to prevent problems later in life.

This may include making antenatal and early childhood health services more accessible to parents; providing parenting information and linking isolated parents with a support network; and facilitating community projects to build supportive environments for families.

"I look forward to seeing this project come to fruition soon and benefit the families of the Lismore electorate," Mr George said.
