Nationals to Focus on Aged Care

24 June 2003

National Party Member for Lismore Thomas George has expressed his disappointment following the announcement of the State Budget.

"Once again major projects in the electorate of Lismore did not get a mention in their own right in the Carr Government's Budget and therefore have not been provided for," said Mr George.

"The Treasurer indicated in his speech that the Government has been listening to the regional voters, however from what I seen it hasn't heard the cries from my electorate.

"The Lismore Electorate only received two mentions in the Budget papers, those being $7.4m for Kyogle MPS and $3.0m for realignment of Macleans Bridge at Wiangaree, which in the papers indicates is federally funded.

"I will certainly be interested to view the more detailed documents once they are available in the hope of receiving ongoing funding for both major and minor projects.

"This is yet another display of the Government's lack of commitment to rural New South Wales and its constituency," Mr George concluded.
