Nationals to Focus on Aged Care

2003/04 STATE BUDGET

20 June 2003

National Party Member for Lismore Thomas George, today said he would be closely scrutinising this year's State Budget, which is due to be handed down on Tuesday 24 June.

"Since the election I have been collating information concerning projects in the Electorate that should require additional or new funding," Mr George said.

Mr George will be particularly looking for the Carr Government's support for the following -
funding for a new mental health unit in Lismore increase in funding for dental health services; a new police station for Lismore and further improvements to the Casino station; additional road funding; projects such as the Legume to Woodenbong Road, Summerland Way & Bruxner Highway; increased and additional funding for schools to assist with identified major works; financial assistance for country halls and showgrounds; recognition of much needed funding increases for preschools; "I call on the Carr Government to provide assistance to these projects. I would also like to see a decrease in payroll tax, which is well and truly overdue, to assist businesses, in particular those close to and competing with those in Queensland," Mr George concluded.
