THOMAS HEADS BACK TO SMALL BUSINESS

20 August 2004

The Nationals Member for Lismore, Mr Thomas George will roll up his sleeves and visit three local businesses as part of the Pollies for Small Business program.

"On Thursday morning 26 August 2004 I will be at Oaten's Retravision in Casino and in the afternoon in Lismore at Farmer Charlie's. Then on Friday morning, 27 August 2004, I am at Kyogle in Eden's Country Store," said Thomas George.

"I am looking forward to working alongside some of my Small Business owners to refamiliarise myself with today's pressures faced by small business operators in the region. I also enjoy the opportunity of showing my support for this vital sector of our local economy.

In its third year, 70 politicians across the state will be taking part in this annual program.

"Small business is an integral part of the Northern Rivers area with a number of accolades being celebrated such as local businesswoman Mrs Lexie Hurford recently being appointed to the NSW Small Business Development Corporation, Eddy Maher, Kyogle Grain Supplies won the North Coast Apprentice of the Year and Mountain Top Coffee (Nimbin) winning the world championship of coffee making.

"Our local economy needs small business as it contributes tremendously via employment opportunities, trade positions as well as bringing the varied local communities together as feasible places of investment and residency.

"I applaud our local small businesses and their imperative contribution to the sustainability of our local communities," concluded Thomas George.
