NATIONALS/LIBERALS TO CUT COST OF CROWN LAND ROAD RENTS FOR LISMORE FARMERS

2005/06 STATE BUDGET

23 May 2005

Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George, today said he would be closely scrutinising this year's State Budget, which is due to be handed down on Tuesday 24 May.

"Since the election I have been collating information concerning projects in the Electorate that should require additional or new funding," Mr George said.

Mr George will be particularly looking for the Carr Government's support for the following -

the abolishment of vendor duty; the re-instatement of an indexed tax-free threshold for land tax; increased and additional funding for schools to assist with minor and major works; Stage 3 of the Lismore Base Hospital redevelopment; commencement of the police station for Lismore; a Cardiac Cath Lab in Lismore; the Woodenbong to Legume Road, Summerland Way & Bruxner Highway; financial assistance for country halls and showgrounds; urgent funding increases for preschools; increase in funding for dental health services

"I call on the Carr Government to provide assistance to these projects. I would also like to see a decrease in payroll tax, which is well and truly overdue, to assist businesses, in particular those close to and competing with those in Queensland," Mr George concluded.
