$40,800 FOR 5 LISMORE ELECTORATE SPORTING ORGANISATIONS

1 February 2006

Thomas George, National Party Member for Lismore says five Lismore electorate sporting organisations will certainly benefit from $40,800 worth of assistance as announced by the Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation, The Hon Sandra Nori, under the 2005/2006 Capital Assistance Program.

"This program is one of the most important avenues of assistance for local sporting organisations. It will assist with the enhancement and future development of community sporting and recreational facilities in this area.

The following projects to benefit from this year's funding are:

$3,000 for the installation of security fencing and light pole safety padding at Casino Town Tennis Court $10,000 for the installation of artificial grass on tennis courts at Green Pigeon Community Centre Reserve Trust $7,000 for the provision of new playground equipment at Crawford Square $5,800 for the construction of young children's playground including sunshade at Federal Community Park $15,000 for the upgrading of lighting at Riverview Park

The specific aim of the program is to work in partnership with the general sporting community and to support those groups who have shown they are prepared to help themselves.

"The provision of these funds is an integral part of recognising the importance of regional recreational facilities in supporting and encouraging a healthy and safe lifestyle for the rural people of NSW" Mr George concluded.
