THOMAS GEORGE WELCOMES 24/7 POLICE STATION AT MURWILLUMBAH UNDER NSW LIBERAL/NATIONALS
19 January 2007
The Nationals Member for the Lismore, Thomas George, today secured a major win for, Murwillumbah with the Liberal/Nationals Coalition committing to an ‘around the clock’ police station.
“After meeting with local business owners and community members I lobbied hard for a more visible police presence in the Murwillumbah and am extremely pleased that a police station in Murwillumbah will operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, under a Liberal/Nationals Government.
“This will be achieved through an additional 15 police officers.
“This is a real victory for The Nationals. With country crime spiralling out of control, we called for a fundamental rethink of policing in rural and regional NSW. This has been reflected in the Liberal/Nationals policy.
“Murwillumbah police officers do a fantastic job despite being forgotten by Sydney. We are going to give them the resources to do even better for the Murwillumbah community,” Mr George said.
"There’s no better deterrent to street crime than to put more police on the beat. A strong police presence sends a message to criminals that breaking the law will not be tolerated and you will be caught,” Thomas George said.
"A NSW Liberal/Nationals Government will put more police on Murwillumbah streets, on our roads and in our communities.
