Thomas George, National Party Member for Lismore says six Lismore electorate sporting organisations will certainly benefit from $48,938 worth of assistance as announced by the Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation, The Hon Sandra Nori, under the 2006/2007 Capital Assistance Program.

“This program is one of the most important avenues of assistance for local sporting organisations. It will assist with the enhancement and future development of community sporting and recreational facilities in this area.

The following projects to benefit from this year’s funding are:
  • $4,000 Casino Croquet Club for the replacement of perimeter fencing
  • $5,450 Eltham Public School P&C Assoc to upgrade the multi sports courts
  • $7,650 Eltham Sport & Recreation Committee to resurface tennis court with synthetic grass
  • $15,560 Lismore Basketball Assoc for installation of court airflow system
  • $3,798 Nimbin Headers Sports Club for installation of field fencing
  • $12,480 Casino Netball Assoc to resurface netball courts
The specific aim of the program is to work in partnership with the general sporting community and to support those groups who have shown they are prepared to help themselves.

“The provision of these funds is an integral part of recognising the importance of regional recreational facilities in supporting and encouraging a healthy and safe lifestyle for the rural people of NSW” Mr George concluded.
