As I face the 24 March election many electorate issues pending and I will continue to work together with my State and Federal colleagues to achieve the needs of the Lismore Electorate.

Rainwater Tank Rebates

The NSW Nationals/Liberal Coalition will offer rebates of up to $1300 for the installation for installing rainwater tanks if the Coalition is elected in March. The policy to expand the current Labor Sydney-only water tank rebate scheme throughout NSW will cost $40 million over four years and will end in 2010. The $1300 rebate will apply for tanks of 7000 litres or more connected to a toilet or washing machine. For connected tanks between 4000 and 6999 litres the rebate would be $1100 and for connected tanks between 2000 and 3999 litres it would be $600. In contrast Laborís rain water tank rebate is capped at $650, applies to Sydney only and will cease in 2008.

Lowering Your Cancer Risk

I recently met with Diana Fisher, Regional Programs Coordinator at the Cancer Councilís Far North Coast regional office who is working hard to spread the message of cancer prevention across the community. She has provided me with a number of useful brochures that are available by contacting my office as well as some information about a website www.cancercouncil.com.au which provides tips for reducing your cancer risk.

Whilst many cancers are related to lifestyle; such as smoking, nutrition, drinking alcohol, weight and sun exposure it can be difficult to understand how much these factors are affecting a persons health or putting them at risk of cancer. The Cancer Council website can help with this assessment.
