15 February 2007

The Nationals Member for Lismore, Thomas George held a celebratory morning tea for all nominees, nominators and friends to join, recognise and congratulate those who have contributed immensely to the benefit of our whole community.

Mr George specifically choses to use the Electorate Woman of the Year Award to commemorate the achievements and leadership of women, in business and volunteers, within his electorate.

The event was held at the Salvation Army Citadel, Goonellabah and recognised the following nominees;

Thomas George announced the Winner; Helen Trustum, who is a local author and historian, organiser of the Bentley Art Show and volunteer who helps the youth promote their talents. Helen has written nine books about the region, preserving some important country traditions and icons.

Following the announcement, Thomas George presented Helen with an invitation from the Premier to attend a Reception for International Women’s Day to be held at Government House on Thursday 8 March 2007.

“There are so many women whose successes and achievements encourage and inspire. I enjoyed the opportunity to join with the communities they represent, their peers, family and friends to celebrate and recognise their huge contribution.

“It was my pleasure to honour these women and their achievements, as they are important means of building the confidence and pride of all women, as well as encouraging other women and girls by publicly presenting mentors and positive role models. Congratulations to all nominees and Helen Trustum,” Thomas George concluded
