I am often approached by local residents who are setting up new small businesses, or seeking to improve their existing businesses and want expert advice or assistance. With increased competition from larger businesses and shopping centres, it is vital our locally run and owned small businesses have the chance to be competitive and prosper.
There are a number of programs available to assist small businesses at all stages of development.
For those operating a business from home, the Home-Based Business Program can assist with business planning, marketing and better systems to equip home-based operators with the tools to direct their business. The Program is accompanied by a Homebiz Kit which is available online or from the small business hotline which is 1300 134 359.
The Stepping Up Program provides established business owners with access to an experienced business person for mentoring and assistance as well as help with developing a profit strategy.
The Innovation Advisory Service offers a range of services to help inventors and small business innovators, including; access to self-assessment software, business advice and referral and low-cost technical and market assessments.
Whilst the State Government cut the number of Business Advisory Centres around the State during its last term in Parliament, there are still eighteen organisations across NSW able to provide free advisory services to small business.
These services provide assistance, seminars/workshops and networking opportunities and can be contacted by calling 1300 650 058.
I urge any small business wishing to be put in touch with these services to contact my office.
