The NSW Economy
Now that Labor has been re-elected, there are a number of things that need to be done immediately to get NSW’s economy back on track.

Last year NSW had the lowest rate of GDP in the country and new housing announcements were almost half what they were in Victoria. Unlike other states our budget is in deficit and we pay the highest tax per person of any state.

Over this next term in Parliament, our State Government will collect and spend around $180 billion. My priority is to see more of this money flowing to regional areas, like the Lismore electorate.

Better Road Transport Planning
Prior to the election, I attended a trucking forum with local transport providers organised by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA). The trucking industry is a very important industry to our area and it was a great opportunity to discuss issues relevant to the sector.

With road freight expect to rapidly increase into the future it is vital there is proper planning for road transport.

I have long been an advocate of a proposal to provide a proper heavy transport route linking the Summerland Way via Kyogle and East of Mt Lindsay into South East Queensland.

This proposal would provide benefits for the trucking industry, local business and the local community and would also provide a solution to the Lismore-Bangalow Road problems. An investigation into the proposal has been supported by Federal Minister for Transport, The Hon. Warren Truss.

A Final Word
I would like to take this opportunity to thank local businesses for their support and feedback over the last four years.
