DOCTORS AND COMMUNITY CONCERNS MUST BE HEARD
Doctors & Community Concerns Must be Heard

Member for Lismore, Thomas George says today’s unprecedented protest rally attended by more than 100 local doctors and members of the community sends a strong message to the Minister for Health and NCAHS about the overwhelming level of opposition to the closure of Lismore’s Rehabilitation Unit.
“This rally sends a message in the strongest possible terms. Our community, our doctors and our allied health workers cannot afford to lose vital health services like the rehabilitation unit,” Mr George said.
“The proposal to close the existing rehabilitation unit is ill-advised and shortsighted and the medical fraternity have reacted accordingly.
“It is a decision that ignores years of dedication by local doctors to the facility, not to mention the decades of multidisciplinary rehabilitation expertise which will be lost.”
Mr George said Petitions presented at the rally contained more than one hundred signatures from local doctors and several thousand signatures from members of the community.
“These signatures, which have been collected in a very short period of time, represent the anger within the community about the proposed closure.
“I call on Minister Hatzistergos to listen to the message being sent by our local doctors and the community and intervene immediately to save our rehabilitation unit,” Mr George said.
