SCU International Forest Unveiled

A newly developed International Forest at Southern Cross University will help international students feel part of the Lismore community and increase awareness of Australia’s unique flora and fauna, Member for Lismore, Thomas George MP said at its unveiling today.

“The International Forest idea was initially developed by the SCU International office, the Office of Regional Engagement and the university grounds staff as a way of improving respect and knowledge of Australia’s indigenous plant species,” Mr George said.

“It also gives international students the opportunity to get their hands dirty and experience tree planting in this region first-hand.”

Mr George said he was honoured to have assisted the project by supplying 35 native trees to add to 120 trees previously planted in February and July 2007.

“This is a wonderful project which helps to integrate the many international students at SCU into our community, Mr George said.

“The international students can continue to take great pride in the International Forest as it grows and expands.”
