Water supply upgrade for Urbenville, Woodenbong and Muli Muli

The Kyogle and Tenterfield Councils can start immediately to call tenders for the long awaited water supply augmentation at Urbenville, Woodenbong and Muli Muli.

This follows today’s announcement by Member for Lismore Thomas George and Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay that the State Government will meet half the eligible cost of the $2.76 million project.

“This is a great win for the Tenterfield and Kyogle Councils,” Mr George said.

“It will mean improved quality of water for the community which is what they deserve.”

Mr Torbay said Water Utilities Minister Nathan Rees had received delegations from the Councils led by the two MPs.

“He has listened and responded to the pressing need for this upgrade,” Mr Torbay said.

“The 800 people in these communities require a safe and secure water supply and with the works due to be completed in 2008, that is not too far away.”

The funding has been allocated from the State Government’s Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program.

The water treatment plant will supply Urbenville in the Tenterfield Shire and Woodenbong and Muli Muli in Kyogle Shire via an existing rising main.
