Lismore Hail Storm Heroes Thanked in Parliament
Lismore’s hail storm heroes have been personally thanked in the NSW Parliament for their commitment, hard work and selflessness during the recent disaster.
In response to The Hon. Nathan Rees, Emergency Services Minister’s, acknowledgment of the seriousness of the storm, Member for Lismore Thomas George has highlighted the good work undertaken by local emergency services personnel, volunteers and the Lismore Council.
“The recent hail storm recovery effort has again shown the strength and resolve of the Lismore community and its volunteers,” Mr George told Parliament.
“The SES volunteers, police, health services, and numerous other emergency workers were called on to meet a wide range of emergency situations and they coped very well.
“Many had just spent the week previously fighting fires in the Bundjalung National Park near Evans Head.
“Thanks should also go to their families and employers who made it possible for the volunteers to give their time.
“We are all grateful that no-one was gravely hurt in the storm, but the cost of damage to property and vehicles will be felt for some time to come.
“I want to personally thank all those that responded so quickly and effectively following the disaster,” Mr George said.
