Christmas: A time to reflect on our Blessings

21st December 2007

Member for Lismore, Thomas George, today urged people to remember the real reason for the Christmas Festive Season.

“Christmas is a time to take stock of our blessings; our families, our friends, our community and our own special abilities to help those around us,” Mr George said.

“I’m urging people to take a moment to recognise the true meaning of Christmas. It’s not only a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends, it’s also an opportunity to focus on spiritual matters and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.”

Mr George also urged everyone to take care of their own and others’ safety.

“Christmas is a time when we drive more, swim more and undertake more activity than usual.

“Swimmers for example need to be aware of those around them in the surf and be alert to anyone who is in danger. Similarly we need to all take care on the roads and be aware of others who are also travelling at this time of year and may be fatigued or distracted.

“Most importantly, I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful 2008.”
