Thomas George, Nationals Member for Lismore, today welcomed the extension of the natural disaster declaration to the Lismore City and Richmond Valley Council areas.

“I am pleased the Premier has today extended the declaration, following the announcement of Kyogle and Tweed on Saturday.”

“Indications today from local Councils is damage will be in excess of $40m once fully assessed. At this stage both Kyogle and Richmond Valley estimations are $15m each, Tweed Council $5m and Lismore City $2m.

“I highlighted my concerns to the Premier about the extent of damage to beef and dairy farmers and sugarcane growers in the area. It is still too early to fully calculate, however there is no doubt these industries will need extra assistance, particularly in relation to the cost of and access to fodder, due to its current high prices and the replacement and repairs to fencing,” Mr George said.
