26th February 2008
The ‘politicians of tomorrow’ are being sought to attend the annual Youth Parliament to be held in Sydney in July, Thomas George MP, Member for Lismore said today.
“The NSW Youth Parliament gives students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to put across their ideas about issues that concern them,” Mr George said.
“As part of the program, participants develop bills for debate in the NSW legislative Assembly. These are then presented to MP’s from the Government and Opposition ensuring young people have an opportunity to have their unique concerns heard by our representatives.”
Mr George said applications for the Youth Parliament, which is an initiative of the YMCA’s of NSW, will close on 10 March 2008 and those interested in applying should either obtain an application from their school or by contacting Mr George’s office on 6621 3624.
“I am always pleased to see students from the Lismore electorate attending the Youth Parliament. They are often the students with the most interesting ideas about how we can work towards a better future for our communities,” Mr George said, “I encourage as many local eligible students as possible to apply.
