FUNDING BOOST FOR NORTHER RIVERS CULTURAL SECTOR
Funding Boost for Northern Rivers Cultural Sector
31 March 2008
Four local projects have been awarded grants under the 2008 State Government Cultural Grants Program, Local MP, Thomas George said today.
“These grants are provided through the office of the Minister for Arts and assist in supporting local cultural programs,” he said.
Successful recipients of the grants in the Lismore electorate include –
- Blue Knob Hall - $33,000 to assist with extensions to the Blue Knob Hall Gallery
- Lismore City Council - $26,965 towards the establishment of a curator’s position at Lismore Regional Art Gallery
- NORPA - $20,000 towards the program of activities for dance
- NORPA - $195,000 towards annual operations for the theatre program
“I am pleased these worthwhile local cultural projects have been successful in achieving funding,” Mr George said.
“It has been a difficult year for some cultural groups, particularly NORPA who suffered significant financial losses as a result of being unable to perform at Lismore City Hall following the hailstorms late last year.
“I wish the co-ordinators of each project all the best in continuing to deliver quality cultural projects to the residents of the Northern Rivers.”
