Look silly and help the kids on Red Nose Friday, North Coast MPs urge
“Former pro boxer Cansdell knows something about red noses…”
25 June 2008
North Coast Nationals MPs Don Page (Ballina), Thomas George (Lismore), Steve Cansdell (Clarence) and Geoff Provest (Tweed) are encouraging locals to participate in Red Nose Day this Friday to help young families while having a bit of fun at the same time.
Mr Cansdell was elected as spokesman for the team on this occasion because, his colleagues say, “he knows more than most about red noses from his earlier life as a professional boxer”.
“We’ll all be donning the red plastic conker to show our support,” he said.
“Red Nose Day is the main fundraising event for SIDS and Kids, the not-for-profit group which can claim a big chunk of the credit for a dramatic fall in the sudden infant deaths”.
“Since 1990, the SIDS and Kids Safe Sleeping program has helped cut the SIDS infant mortality rate by 90%, equalling more that 4,500 Australian babies’ lives saved.
“However 200 Australian children still die each month suddenly and unexpectedly from various causes – the money we raise in buying a red nose helps fund further research and as well as counselling for families who experience the tragedy of a toddler passing away.”
Red Nose day is backed by the Wiggles and many major retail outlets. For more information, visit www.rednoseday.com.au
