LOCAL MP THOMAS GEORGE ROLLS UP HIS SLEEVES FOR SMALL BUSINESS

08 August 2008

Thomas George MP, Member for Lismore, will be joining more than 80 of his State and Federal colleagues across New South Wales as they are put to work as part of the NSW Business Chamber’s annual Pollies for Small Business program.

Thomas George will be visiting local businesses Escape Coffee Lounge in Murwillumbah on Monday 11 August between 9am – 11am and Café 29 Downtown in Lismore on Tuesday 12 August between 11am – 1pm.

Mr George said he was looking forward to the experience of being in a small business operator’s shoes for a day.

“Having been a small business owner, I know the important part it plays in the community. Pollies for Small Business gives me the chance to get back to the coalface and refresh myself with its highlights and troubles, but also gives small business operators the chance to raise their concerns directly with me,” said Mr George.

Kevin MacDonald, CEO of NSW Business Chamber said last year 83 State and Federal politicians took part from the major parties, Greens and independents, including the Premier and NSW Opposition Leader.

“This is a great program. It helps businesspeople and MP’s understand one another better and we should encourage and support any measures that can help achieve that”, Mr MacDonald concluded.

The NSW Business Chamber Pollies for Small Business program is run in cooperation with the local Chamber of Commerce network.
