The Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said the Rees Labor Government’s Mini Budget is one that will hit local families hard, hurting country and coastal people in northern NSW communities.

Drastic cuts confirmed in the Mini Budget are;

“This Mini Budget is a heartless move by State Labor that will cause a lot of hardship for people who live in my electorate, just south of the Queensland border,” Mr George said.

Other changes outlined in the Mini Budget include;

This Mini Budget is the Rees Labor Government’s attempt to pull NSW out of the deplorable financial position that it put our State in, it is in defence of the State’s AAA credit rating which has slipped to an all time low in recent months.

“People in country areas are already doing it tough. When is the Rees Labor Government going to face the fact the State is where it is by its own mismanagement.

“Cutting the petrol subsidy scheme, discontinuing the Back to School allowance and the introduction of a co-payment for school student transport will no doubt affect rural people already strugglnig with the cost of living. Many may even consider the prospect of leaving NSW to relocate to Queensland.

“There will be a loss of jobs in the Northern Rivers and that is the last thing people need right now going into an economic downturn.

“It is indeed disappointing that our State is in this deplorable situation and such drastic action has to be taken by the Labor Government who managed to put the State in this hole,” concluded Thomas George.
