PROTEST RALLY CALLED IN LISMORE AGAINST HOSPITAL CUTS
Protest rally called in Lismore against Hospital cuts
26 November 2008
Lismore and Ballina Nationals MP’s Thomas George and Don Page are urging locals to show up in force at a protest rally in Lismore on Saturday against the State Labor Government staff cuts across North Coast hospitals, including those at Lismore, Nimbin, Kyogle, Ballina, Byron and Mullumbimby.
“We need the support of the whole community to save our hospitals now,” Mr Page said.
The rally will be held on Saturday 29 November at 1 pm at Spinks Park, Lismore.
Simultaneous rallies are being organised in other regional centres including Tweed Heads, Casino, Grafton and Coffs Harbour, following the announcement the State Labor Government is cutting 400 full time jobs from hospitals in the North Coast Area Health Service.
“It is an absolute disgrace that Labor could do this to the North Coast,” Mr George said.
“If Labor goes ahead with these cuts, they will show the true disregard they feel for the people of the Northern Rivers region.”
Mr Page said that as well as residents from across the region, he wanted to see all of the area's elected representatives at the rally, including councilors and the Labor Federal Members for Page and Richmond, to show a united front against the State Labor Government's downgrading of the North Coast Area health services.
“Our hospitals are everyone's business and we need to band together to show the State Labor Government that the North Coast deserves better,” Mr Page said.
