SCHOOL TRAVEL BACKFLIP A WELCOME
SCHOOL TRAVEL BACKFLIP A WELCOME CHRISTMAS PRESENT
January 12 2009
Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said today Nathan Rees backflip on the school travel tax is a win for the community who were rightly outraged at this attack on working families.
“Nathan Rees’ decision to tax school travel was wrong and the NSW Nationals/Liberals said so from day one,” Mr George said.
“It was wrong because it was blatant tax grab on working families, it put students’ safety at risk and it would have worsened traffic congestion around schools.
“I am pleased the community, backed by the Coalition, have forced Nathan Rees into this backdown” he said.
“The NSW Liberal/Nationals announced we would reverse it if elected in 2011. I’m pleased we achieved a result before then and saved working families from the blatant tax grab.
“Mr Rees should still adopt our savings by abolishing the unattached list of public servants who have no job, which would save taxpayers around $45 million a year,” Mr George said.
