THOMAS GEORGE OPENS CONDOLENCE BOOK FOR VICTORIAN FIRE VICTIMS

18 Fedruary 2009

The Nationals Member for Lismore, Thomas George, has opened a condolence book for residents of the Lismore electorate to send messages of support and condolence to the victims of the Victorian Bush Fires.

“This is a tragedy beyond words,” Mr George said.

“Every day, as the death toll rises, we feel a sense of helplessness, in our inability to say or do something to help ease the pain and suffering that thousands of our fellow Australians in Victoria are feeling at this moment.

“The shock of this disaster is intense – the devastation is horrific – and the pain affects everyone.”

Mr George said the condolence book is available to sign at the Lismore Electorate office at 55 Carrington Street, Lismore.

“I will be sending these pages to Parliament within the next few weeks to be included in the bound Book for Expressions of Condolence,” Mr George said.

“I encourage donations to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009, which can be made by calling the Red Cross on 1800 811 700 or online at the Red Cross at www.redcross.org.au.

“Together we can all do a bit to help with the recovery effort from this overwhelming tragedy,” Mr George said.
