$40,000 TO TAKE UP THE WATER AND ENERGY SAVING CHALLENGE

10 March 2009

Local sporting clubs, community groups, pre-schools, rural organisations and health and aged-care facilities are being offered $40,000 to undertake simple, low-cost water and energy saving upgrades in the facilities they use, Member for Lismore, Thomas George said today.

“Most not-for-profit community organisations focus their financial resources on meeting their members needs or benefiting the community. They rarely have money leftover to take on environmentally friendly upgrades, Mr George said.

“The $40,000 Community Savers grant available through the Department of Environment and Climate Change can be used for projects like; the installation of rainwater tanks, water-efficient toilets, fixtures and fittings, the upgrade of lighting and hot-water systems and, the improvement of insulation.”

Mr George said not-for-profit organisations should apply as quickly as possible for the $40,000 grant, as all applications must be made by c.o.b. 30 April 2009.

“I want to see as many Far North Coast organisations as possible access these grants,” he said.

“I strongly urge representatives of clubs and groups to either get in contact with my office and ask for an application form, or download one from the Department of Environment website at www.environment.nsw.gov.au/grants/ccfpfp.htm
