TIME FOR BUSINESS TO SHOWCASE WORKPLACE SAFETY

12 March 2009

Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George today called on businesses to showcase their workplace safety achievements by entering the 2009 WorkCover Safe Work Awards.

“Most employers take great pride in working hard to ensure that they run a safe workplace,” Mr George said.

“Although WorkCover mandates minimum levels of workplace safety, many rural and regional employers that I have met put in a lot extra to ensure the safety of their staff.

“The annual SafeWork Awards are a unique opportunity for business operators and workers to share their innovations and achievements with a wide audience, and be rewarded for their efforts at state and possibly national level,” Mr George said.

“Employers and workers can enter a specific project or group of initiatives that have improved safety in a workplace, such as enhancements to equipment, a new work process or improved communication strategies.

“Entries can address any safety issue specific to an individual workplace, or can be an initiative that can be used by other businesses.”

The winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner in Sydney at Rosehill Gardens Grand Pavilion on 28 October 2009.

Winning entries from the WorkCover NSW 2009 SafeWork Awards are automatically submitted into the National Safety Awards held in Canberra in early 2010.

Nominations for the 2009 Awards will close 5pm Monday 25 May 2009, with employers and workers are invited to submit written entries or on-line in the following four categories:
