GEORGE CALLS ON NOMINATIONS TO ATTEND COMMONWEALTH DAY IN LONDON

11 December 2009

Nominations are now open for one or two young people to attend Commonwealth Day celebrations in London on 8 March 2010, said Nationals Member for Lismore, Thomas George.

Plans for the day include discussions on the Commonwealth, short debates and presentations on current critical issues in the Commonwealth, presence at the Observance Ceremony in Westminster Abbey (attended by Her Majesty the Queen) and attendance at the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s evening receptions in the presence of Her Majesty.

“The theme for the event is “Science, Technology and Society” said Mr George.

“I encourage anyone who knows of a potential nominee, aged between 18 to 25 that may be in London or nearby on Commonwealth Day during this time to apply.

“The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will meet, where required, the cost of accommodation for the night of Sunday 7 March 2010 in London, but it should be noted that any other accommodation and all travels costs involved would be the responsibility of the nominee and therefore, this would be appropriate for young people who are travelling in the area at the time,” said Mr George.

Nominations close on 25 January 2010 and nomination forms are available at the Lismore electorate office, 55 Carrington Street, Lismore or by calling (02) 6621 3624.
