LOCAL WOMAN RECOGNISED FOR DEDICATION TO GUIDING

22 February 2010

Thomas George, Nationals Member for Lismore, today presented Mrs Helen Hargreaves, of Dunoon, with a Premier’s Community Service Award for her involvement in Girl Guides.

“I am honoured today to recognise Helen’s dedication for the past 30 years to the Girl Guides Association throughout the world, including Peru, Singapore & Venezuela.

“For the past 20 year she has been the leader of the Girl Guide Unit at Clunes.

“Through this role Helen has given many young women life skills, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives,” Mr George said.

During this time Helen has held a number of regional and state positions as well as being the Regional Commissioner and International Advisor for Australian Girl Guides undertaking overseas trips.

Helen regularly organises camping, canoeing, and abseiling trips and accompanies Girl Guides to regional, state and international camps. Most recently to the Guides Centennial camp held in Victoria last month.

“It is the commitment and dedication of people like Helen which enriches our community,” Mr George said.
