March is the month to apply for the funding under the 2010 NRMA Insurance Community Grants Program, The Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said today.

Mr George said the annual grants offer not-for-profit groups between $500 and $5,000 for projects aimed at making the community a safer place to be.

“The Community Grants Program supports groups with projects which aim to make the community safer, whether it is crime prevention, road safety or emergency response.

“Projects which aim to assist the environment will also be eligible for this funding.”

“The NRMA have offered this grant since 2003 and have given $4 million back to the community through more than 1100 projects under various grants projects.

“Unlike other grants, this project is quite open in regards to how the projects are delivered and the selection criteria are not as specific as the NSW Government grants.

“This is a great opportunity for many community groups who work to make our communities a safer, or greener, place to live.”

Mr George said applications would open soon, with registrations open from 1 March until 31 March 2010.

“I urge community groups to jump on board and get applications in order, ready to submit next month.

“Small grants are quite rare these days so I would definitely encourage not-for-profit groups to submit applications to the Community Grants Program and source funding for any up-coming events or projects.”
