Grants for rural preschools and childhood intervention projects are now open, The Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said today.

Mr George said the REACH- Rural Early Childhood Program 2010 grants were for communities with a population of less than 10 000 while the Intervention Support Program was open to all child care providers for children with disabilities.

“The REACH- Rural Early Childhood Program 2010 aims to fund refurbishments, education resources, training and development of staff, heating and cooling of the building, water tanks and irrigation or drinking supply, indoor or outdoor equipment, information technology or gardens.

“The Program can not fund fee subsidies, operation or administration costs or social activities however funding from $1,000 to $20,000 can be requested, with the grant supplied by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation Grants Program for communities with a population under 10,000 residents.

“Applications close 14 May 2010 and more information is available by phoning 1800170020, emailing or by office.

“The Intervention Support Program is funded by the NSW Department of Education and Training to provide educational opportunities, learning outcomes and personal development for children with a disability.

“Preschools, long day care, early intervention centres and residential care facilities are strongly encouraged to apply for this grant.

“There are four categories of funding available for child carers who are non-profit organisations. Private or profit making services, Government Departments and TAFES are not eligible for this particular funding.”
