Red Cross Conference in Kyogle
I was pleased to open the Red Cross Zone 27 Conference in Kyogle earlier this month. Congratulations to President Val Ferris, Representative Jenny Ryan and all the volunteers - not just for organising another great event, but more importantly for all the great work they do in the community on behalf of the much-loved Red Cross.
Rally Success, Residents Urged To Provide Feedback
When Parliament resumed earlier this month, I made a point of thanking Kyogle and district residents for making the World Repco Rally such a success.
I complimented the hundreds of local volunteers; Kyogle Mayor Ross Brown and his team; and Richmond Local Area Commander, Supt Bruce Lyons and his officers on their wonderful contribution in making the rally a safe, successful and wonderful event.
Local small business operators I spoke with reported bumper trade and that has to be good for local jobs.
Now is the time to look back and see what we can improve for the future.
The Nationals secured an amendment to the Rally legislation, which forces the Government to review key aspects of the event, including consulting with the local community.
I welcome all comments, positive or negative, so long as they have a genuine bearing on the event and its impact on our region.
Backing local Rural Fire Service volunteers in Parliament
During another debate in NSW Parliament, I went in to bat for local Rural Fire Service volunteers. I was speaking against the NSW Labor Government plans to incorporate the RFS into the NSW Police Force.
Rural Fire Service volunteers have a very proud tradition of saving lives here on the North Coast, and indeed many travelled to Victoria to help fight the terrible bush fires they endured earlier this year.
