Nats Regional Tour
Recently my colleagues and I went on a two-week bus tour of regional NSW, from Queanbeyan to Tweed Heads and out to Dubbo. The tour was a good way for MPís from across regional NSW to meet with locals and hear their experiences first hand. The Nationals are about listening to their local communities and fighting for a fair go for regional NSW.
This again took place on 6 May when 20 Federal & State Nationals MPís gathered in Lismore to meet with local people, businesses and organisations to find out the specific needs and concerns of the Lismore electorate.
Deborah and I again had a wonderful time at the Bonalbo Show on 24 April. It is always great to attend to be able to appreciate the quality of produce and livestock this region has to offer. Congratulations to President Roy Vary & his committee on yet another successful Show.
BER Inquiry opens
This Parliamentary Inquiry comes after a number of complaints regarding the BER Program from schools and other members of the public, not only within the Lismore electorate, but right across NSW. Concerns regarding the fees and charges imposed by the State Government, the cost of the projects, the use of local tradesmen and builders, and the variance in quotes have all been issues raised from the public regarding BER projects. The NSW Liberals/Nationals have responded to the public and have initiated the Parliamentary Inquiry with hopes of uncovering the mismanagement behind the BER Program so taxpayers money can stop being wasted. I encourage not only schools, but members of the public to make submissions. The closing date is Monday 7 June 2010 and could be made via the website www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/gpsc2, by emailing ,a href="mailto:email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org or by writing to The Director, General Purpose Standing Committee No. 2, Legislative Council, Parliament House, Macquarie St, Sydney NSW 2000.
