FINAL CALL FOR 2010 NSW SPORT GRANTS

FINAL CALL FOR 2010 NSW SPORT GRANTS

9 June 2010

The last of the NSW Government’s Department of Sport and Recreation grants for 2010 are now open for nominations, the Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George said today.

Mr George said groups in the Lismore electorate are strongly encouraged to submit applications for the Sport and Recreation Participation Program, International Sporting Event Program and the Disability Sport Assistance Program if they hope to gain funding this year.

“These are the final three grants offered by the Department of Sport and Recreation for 2010 as the Government has changed its grant categories and processes.

“Formerly, a series of small grants was offered throughout the year, but now this system has been replaced by fewer categories of funding, much to the disappointment of rural sporting groups and individuals.”

Mr George said applications for the Disability Sport Assistance Program and the Sport and Recreation Program will close 6 July 2010.

‘The Sport and Recreation Program offers small grants from $500 to $10 000 to increase access to ongoing participation of sport.

“The Disability Sport Assistance Program offers grants from $2 000 to $20 000 with aims to improve opportunities for people with a disability to participate in sport and physical activity and increase ongoing participation.

“Projects which link people with disability to existing community based activities will be well regarded as will projects which can demonstrate ongoing, sustainable increases in the number of people with a disability participating in sport and physical activity.”

Mr George said the International Sporting Event Program is open to National, State and other not for profit organisations that wish to gain funding for projects that attract and support international sporting events in NSW.

“This program is offered twice a year with the final closing date of 30 September 2010.”

Applications for all grants must be completed online via the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation website www.dsr.nsw.gov.au however applicants can contact my office on 66213624 for a copy of the application guidelines.
