COMMUNITY CONSULTATION ON HOSPITAL FIX IN LISMORE AND MURWILLUMBAH

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION ON HOSPITAL FIX IN LISMORE AND MURWILLUMBAH

14 July 2010

Residents concerned about health services in the Lismore electorate are being invited to have their say at free community consultation sessions organised by the NSW Opposition and which will take place on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 July.

The Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George decided to organise the forums after the State and Federal Governments declared that improvements to NSW Hospitals would start being felt immediately on July 1, following the signing of the Health Reform Agreement between NSW Premier Kristina Keneally and then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in April.

“Early indications are that nothing has changed, but we need to get a fuller picture,” Mr George said.

“The NSW Liberal-Nationals will quite possibly be in Government within nine months and we are committed to genuine consultations with local communities, doctors and nurses to ensure that health reforms deliver improved health care for the people of NSW.”

Mr George said he would be accompanied by the NSW Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health Jenny Gardiner who had considerable expertise on the subject, and that he had also directly invited key local health stakeholders.

The meetings will be held at the following times and locations:

Monday 19 July
Lismore – 5.30pm at the Northern Rivers University Department of Rural Health

Tuesday 20 July
Murwillumbah – 3.00pm at the Services Memorial Club

Mr George said residents who could not attend a community consultation meeting could still have their say by contacting his office or going online to www.startthechange.com.au/healthreform.

Other community consultations meetings were also being planned by Mr George’s North Coast Nationals colleagues, Steve Cansdell, Don Page and Geoff Provest in their respective electorates.
