GEORGE TAKES ON GEORGE STREET TRAFFIC ISSUES

29 July 2010

Nationals Member for Lismore Thomas George today met with Murwillumbah residents and Tweed Shire Council representatives to discuss traffic issues relating to George and Peter Streets.

David Evans and other residents are specifically concerned with motorists not adhering to the 50km speed limit and width of George Street, and the poor visibility of approaching traffic to the intersection of George and Peter Street.

“Together with council, including Ray Clark and John Zawadzki, we have agreed to take forward the following matters,” Mr George said.

“We will register the speeding issue with the police, talk with local bus operators and work with council to see if there is any way of extending the footpath along the narrow section of George Street, heading west from Peter’s Street.

“The on-site inspection highlighted and reinforced to us the residents concerns.”
